September Meeting – The Meeting in the Dark

As Gomer (of the Andy Griffin Show) use to say, “Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!”

We got to the Mahlon Adams Pavilion last Wednesday and the Festival in the Park headquarters was set up in the meeting room. Not to let a little scheduling mix up deter us, we ‘hiked’ down the hill to Shelter #3 and had a very good meeting.

It was a good turn out with lots of new faces. We covered several important environment issues for taking action: our Coal Ash Campaign, Incinerator Free Mecklenburg, the Charlotte Tree Ordinance, and the BMWNC Medical Waste Incinerator. It was great to see people signing letters and coal ash postcards by flashlight. Now, that’s commitment!

Matt Long, 2005 AT Thru Hiker and 1,000 mile Continental Divide Trail Hiker, gave a great talk on hiking with lots of ideas and suggestions. Thanks again to Matt and Bill Bartee, owner of Jesse Brown’s, for your support and the special discount coupons. We even had hiking and trail maps for several trails in the area.
